Greene County district court, week ending May 27

In Greene County district court Sean Patrick Phillip Shell, 46, of Jefferson was sentenced May 24 after he changed his plea to guilty to drug-related charges in two separate cases. The first case was initiated in March 2021. He was sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver; he was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance violation; he was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. He was sentenced to one year in prison and fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The prison term and fine were the same on a charge of unlawful possession of a prescription drug. The prison terms are consecutive.

On the second case, which was initiated in June 2021, Shell was sentenced to six months in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail term is consecutive to the prison terms in the earlier case, for a total of 9-1/2 years. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. The fine and surcharge were dismissed. Court costs were $130.

All terms were suspended and Shell was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for 2-5 years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Fines and surcharges were dismissed in the earlier case except for that imposed on the charge of possession of methampehtamine. Court costs on that case were $171.50. A charge of ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise in the earlier case was dismissed. A charge in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia was also dismissed. Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Cole Anthony Langford, 38, of Des Moines, forgery, theft- fourth degree; Michael Marlin Matthews, 26, of Grand Junction, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Jesse James Sanders, 20, of Churdan, driving while license barred; Kyle Joynes Thomas, 68, of Boone, operating while intoxicated; and Chanze Jay Bushman, 20, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. Trial dates were set for July 19 for Langford, Thomas and Bushman, and for Aug. 23 for Matthews and Sanders.

A case was initiated in district court against Jodi Ann Ganoe, 47, of Jefferson on a charge of possession of marijuana- second offense.
